Love Monkey #9

Written by Bootsauce, from Bull, 1992

(Ling, rich snob voice) Pardon me, but, does your monkey bite?

Sometimes...!

They only wanted to hurt you maybe
To make you suffer and do you wrong
But all the hope I can give you, sadly
Is in the next life, you have the gun

Love monkey #9
You only wanted to be
Love monkey #9
You're my whole life, it seems (x 2)

They only wanted to test their reason
Infect their patients with drugs gone wrong
That baby lotion and hairspray lady
Is blood-stained, baby, you've got it wrong

Love monkey #9
You only wanted to be
Love monkey #9
You're my whole life, it seems (x 2)

They only thought they were helping, maybe
"Animal testing can do no wrong"
To kill another for any reason
My love monkey can do no wrong

Monkey...monkey...
You only wanted to be
You're my whole life, it seems

Love monkey #9
You only wanted to be
Love monkey #9
You're my whole life, it seems (x 5)

Notes:

  • The title is a reference to the song "Love Potion No. 9" by Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller. The song is about a perfume that renders its wearer irresistible.
  • This song is a strong stand against cosmetic animal testing. Animal testing was a particularly hot topic when Bull was released, with exposés prompting cultural backlash via protests and even a Bloom County arc.
  • There is a bridge of ambient music between the end of this track and the start of "Touching Cloth", containing audio samples of livestock.
