The Long Goodbye

Written by Bootsauce, from Sleeping Bootie, 1993

As I walk through my life
Eyes closed to the sound
Of people and places I've been
As I watch from afar
You've grown older and strong
You're leaving, to walk in the light

You never wanted to say
You kept your head high
The truth was the same
You kiss me goodnight
The long goodbye is all we have
The light goes strong, the life we have

(Group) She told me as the tears fell from her eyes
"Feel in me, I'm the sun that crossed your sky"

As life takes its turns
Not always for good
I'd like to think of all that you've been
I never did let you down
Tried to hold you up high
The queen of all she surveys

You never wanted to say
You kept your head high
The truth was the same
You kiss me goodnight
The long goodbye is all we have
The light goes strong, the life we have

(Group) She told me as the tears fell from her eyes
"Hold me close, I'll be empty when you're gone"
She told me as the tears fell from her eyes
"Feel in me, I'm the sun that crossed your sky"

Feel in me, as I'm walking to the light
Hold me close, I'm the sun that crossed your sky
Feel in me, as I'm walking to the light

As I come to accept
You're no bigger than life
You left me to walk in the light
As I walk through my life
Eyes closed to the sound
Of people and places I've been

(Group) She told me as the tears fell from her eyes
"Hold me close, I'll be empty when you're gone"
She told me as the tears fell from her eyes
"Feel in me, I'm the sun that crossed your sky"

Never wanted to say, you kept your head high
The truth was the same, you kiss me goodnight (x 4)

Notes:

  • Much like with "The 13th Psalm", this song has a secret hidden track. "The Long Goodbye" ends at the 5:48 mark. There is a long silence, and then...a country song, beginning at 6:01.

(Fume, southern accent) One, two! A-one two three four!
(Ling) Down home, they call her Virginia,
But 'round here, they call her Louise
    Her fella don't treat her,
    Guy ain't even seen her,
So I'm gonna tell him the news
All the good ones are taken, (x 3)
So I, I, I, (oh yeah baby), I'm taking yours
    Oh yeah
    (someone makes mouth raspberry)
(Ling, normally) 'Kay, well let...let's do a long version now.

  • After more silence, at 8:37 there is a sample of someone in the studio yelling, "Boring!"
  • At 10:44, we get to the real meat and potatoes, with a full-length hidden dance track.
