The Man In The River

Written by Bootsauce, from Bootsauce, 1995

Met a man from Virginia I didn't like much
You know his face was familiar, a little too much
Thought he looked good for dinner, I wanted a snack
He wouldn't fit in the freezer, so I left him out back

There's a man in the river
Left him there last winter
They found a corpse in the river
Dumped him there last winter

Killed a man from Virginia, he made me quite mad
He said he'd put me in pictures, he took photographs
I thought he looked real familiar, yeah he's a rockstar
He couldn't sing me a number, took him clubbing out back

There's a man in the river
Left him there last winter
They found a corpse in the river
Dumped him there last winter

Loved a man from Virginia, who I didn't like much
He wasn't much of a swimmer, he barely could float
Knew he looked real familiar, yeah he's that rockstar
Even Dandy's no swimmer tied down with a rock
Aw yeah, Papa Funk

There's a man in the river
Left him there last winter
They found a corpse in the river
Dumped him there last winter (x 2)

Notes:

  • This is pure speculation, but this song is likely inspired by American murderer Jeffrey Dahmer. The song's reference to attacking attractive men, eating them, and storing them in freezers is exactly what Dahmer became famous for. He was arrested in 1991, and killed in prison in 1994, so his case was very much in the public eye when this song would have been written.
  • The line "Even Dandy's no swimmer" is a reference to Jim "Dandy" Mangrum, lead singer of the band Black Oak Arkansas. Dandy Mangrum's lewd activity on stage and in songs likely had some influence on Bootsauce.
